“A first novel of such rare excellence that it will no doubt make a great many readers slow down to relish more fully its simple distinction. . . . A novel of strong contemporary national significance.” - Chicago Tribune
“All of the tactile brilliance and none of the precocity generally supposed to be standard swamp-warfare issues for Southern writers. . . . Novelist Lee’s prose has an edge that cuts through cant, and she teaches the reader an astonishing number of useful truths about little girls and about Southern life.” - Time
“That rare literary phenomenon, a Southern novel with no mildew on its magnolia leaves. Funny, happy and written with unspectacular precision, To Kill a Mockingbird is about conscience—how it is instilled in two children, Scout and Jem Finch; how it operates in their father, Atticus, a lawyer appointed to defend a Negro on a rape charge, and how conscience grows in their small Alabama town.” - Vogue

"Great read again, did this in High School, I think it was better this time"

Jon P. (5/5)

A Heart Happy Read

"This is one of my favourite stories of all time. I first read it in Grade 10 English, but have re-read it several times over the past few decades. I bought this beautiful hardcover copy for my soon-to-be 13-year-old granddaughter as part of her Christmas present. The thought of talking about the story with her makes my heart happy!"

Karen T. (5/5)

To Kill a Mockingbird is apparently titled

"Read this great classic when I 12, even better the second time 60 years later. Highly recommended reading."

Penny (5/5)

The discovery of the title choice is a surprising reflection of how crowd mentality colors the thinking of otherwise intelligent people.

"This book is classic literature, blending a well-written story with truths of both the fallibility and the potential for heroism within the human spirit."

ShariK (5/5)

Should be on everyones bookshelf.

"This is my all time favorite book. No matter how often I read it, I find something new to love about it. It is a timeless story of empathy, resilience and the hard lessons life teaches us."

Michele (5/5)

LOVED IT! LOVE IT!

"This book has been one of my favourites since junior high; I can read it again and again and see something new in it every time. Scout's growth and learning speak to the beauty of curiosity and wonder."

Anonymous (5/5)

Loved it!

"This book is a classic! I enjoyed it so much my first time reading it in school that I had to purchase my own copy and reread it."

Danielle (5/5)

Did not enjoy this book

"Unfortunately I wasn't able to get into reading this book. #plumreview"

Kelly (1/5)

Timeless

"Atticus has become my favorite character of all time. Period."

Jacob (5/5)

Just okay

"Forgive me for not having read this in high school like the rest of the population. Forgive me also for not liking it very much. I understand why it would be an appropriate book to teach about racism, justice and equality, but I think those are lessons I’ve already learned. I did like the ending, however predictable it was. I think I will step back from trying to enjoy “the modern classics” that are past their prime."
