Born in Tyndall, SD, Roger's family moved while he was still very young. He lived in Arizona until the 4th grade, then moved to Colorado. It was in the mountains where Roger began to enjoy reading. At first what was merely a pleasant past time became a passion for fantasy when he discovered the works of Terry Brooks, namely The Sword of Shannara. He began to write his first novel a year later in the 7th grade, and that book would be the beginning of Ravin World and the Ravin Saga Mythology. Roger's family moved back to South Dakota, where he finished high school and met his future wife Alysia. He enrolled at the University of South Dakota to study biology, chemistry, and creative writing. His plan was to go into veterinary medicine and be a small animal surgeon. However, it was in his creative writing classes that Roger realized what he wanted to do. Finishing his first book during college, five more followed as he honed his style and storytelling skills. Roger lives with his wife, son Atticus, and two dogs and cats (two sons and two daughters), and a turtle he does not claim in small Gayville, SD. And yes, that really is the town's name, so get used to it. When not working at his day job, he spends every moment he can spare into writing his next novel. Find out more about R. A.
