"What kind of secrets do families keep from one another? Are there truly some that should never be revealed? What is family actually worth? These are some of the very hard, and often times uncomfortable, questions that Goodson brings up in her debut novella. Nothing is as it seems when family members come together to make good on their grandfather/father's last wish in order to get their inheritance: they all must work together to clean out the old family home. What transpired was such an emotional roller coaster I was completely unprepared for it, but I so loved the ride!
As someone who loves stories with dark twists, ones that don't always have the classic "happy" ending, and likes books that focus on difficult topics as a way to maybe help us make sense of our lives, "Wall of Crosses" was right up my alley when it comes to scratching that contemporary fiction itch. Goodson crafts such seamless scene transitions between the family's flashbacks, the analogies and metaphors she uses are just beautiful, and the family bickering? So much fun! There is so much drama and suspense packed into this novella, that it had some serious thriller elements to it, which I was pleasantly surprised by, especially when it comes to the end. What an ending! But I'll say no more, because no one likes spoilers."

"Goodson does an incredible job giving each POV a definitive, emotive voice. Jacob's and Andy's parts read sooo differently, with Jacob being a typical guy, and Andy being an emotional, anxiety-plagued wife who struck so many chords with me. Like, I AM Andy. Or Andy is me. Who came first Goodson gives not only distinctive POVs, but she's a beast at giving the side characters their own syntax. Each character is well-rounded, with his own unique way of speaking. I found that really refreshing. Lots of times, I get characters all jumbled together because they sound exactly alike. Not so in this novella!
Wall of Crosses shocked me and stayed with me long after. It's no 'finished-and-done' book, but one that got me thinking all night. Goodson leaves the reader asking lots of questions about humanity and depravity and the things that send us over the edge. Can we ever come back? Goodson lets us answer that ourselves, cause she's a devilish genius. You sly, sly creature, Goodson. I'll take my heart back now, please and thanks."

"I gotta say, this one exceeded my expectations! I loved the cover which is why I picked up in the first place, but what's inside is what really ended up wowing me! Great read, definitely worth your time!"
