Each book in the Inspire series focuses on one famous woman athlete or performing artist. Appropriate photos illustrate key moments in each woman’s life and career. Although mainly focusing on their exciting achievements, the books make sure to highlight instances in which each woman helps, inspires, or supports others. For example, WNBA star Angel Reese is known for her double-doubles (“double-digit scores in two areas like shooting, rebounds, or assists”) and also runs a foundation that “supports girls and women . . . [and] helps people who have faced injustice.” WNBA star Caitlin Clark “is a star shooter. But . . . she is proud to pass to teammates.” Halle Bailey’s family supported her as she and her sister became stars, and Bailey “hopes to do the same for others.” Zendaya, who has built on her initial fame as a child actor to become a star, “speaks out against bullying and racism . . . [and] stands up for what is right.” The books are well designed for nonfiction study, as they are brimming with text features that include a table of contents, chapter titles, sidebars, captions, and a page of “Superstats” (basic biographical information, plus awards), as well as a glossary, index, and suggestions for additional reading in print and online. WNBA and pop-culture fans will enjoy learning more about these stars.
